SimpliFi Your Retirement – Tip #4

Retirees are vulnerable to identity theft because they are in frequent contact with professionals and caregivers who have access to personal information.

There is no need for fancy-pants credit monitoring services. Under federal law, you are entitled to free annual credit reports by visiting: www.annualcreditreport.com. Rather than requesting a report from all three agencies at once, space them out. Each agency allows one report per calendar year.

The schedule we follow is:

  • April – Equifax
  • August – Transunion
  • December – Experian

The report will not give you a score, which is okay. You are simply checking the report for inaccuracies and fraudulent activity.
